Tracksters race to second

Junior sprinter Josh Entwisle led off the Spartan boys’ track and field effort with a victory in the 100 meters in a time of 11.3 and then was followed by an avalanche of Stanwood runners, jumpers and tossers who finished among the top four during the Stanwood Twilight Invitational last Friday night as the Sparts were edged by Lake Stevens 210-192 in the seven-team competition.

points), Anacortes (115), Kamiak (36), Monroe (19) and Seattle’s Rainier Beach (6) also competed.

Other victors included Robert Hanke, who set a new personal standard with a fleet 300-meter hurdle time of 38.79 seconds before teaming with fellow Spartans for two more relay wins. He was joined in the winner’s circle by Alex Hatley with a 50-07 heave of the shot, Trevor Fekkes in the javelin (145-02) and Kale Schmidt in the high jump with a clearance of 6 feet, 4 inches.

The winning 4X100 relay squad included Alexander Bentz as well as Schmidt, Hanke and Entwisle (44.1) while the triumphant 4X400 team consisted of Ben Ulrich, Bentz, Hanke and Schmidt (3:28).

Second places went to Schmidt in the long jump with a leap of 21-10 and Hanke in the 110 hurdles with a clocking of 15.0 seconds.

Thirds were given to Wade Weinert in the 3200 (10:14), Joe Eidsness in the javelin (142-01) and Aaron Wiganosky in the pole vault (12-06).

Taking home fourthplace finishes were Trevor Fekkes (HJ, 5-10) and Ulrich (110H, 16.9).
