Lady Sparts capture own Stanwood Twilight Invitational

By posting eight victories and having a series of other fine finishes to back them up, the Lady Spartan track and field team outscored a handful of other area high school squads to win the Stanwood Twilight Invitational last Friday evening.
The Spartan girls racked up 257 total points while Mount Vernon (184 points), Lake Stevens (183), Anacortes (93), Rainier Beach (22) and Kamiak (6) trailed.
Those out-running, out-throwing and outjumping the competition were Corinne Teichgrab in the 400 meter run (60.7), Savanna Woods in the 100 hurdles (17.2), Emily Wayland in the shot put (33-0), Kaci Jones in the discus (109-03), Grace Sheridan in the high jump (4-06), Daisha Kantola in the pole vault (9-0), Madison Davis in the 800 (2:21) and the 4X400 relay quartet of Natalie Bergstrom, Natasha Verma, Teichgrab and Davis (4:07).
Second places were earned by Minna Fields in the 3200 (11:15), Bergstrom in the 300 hurdles (50.3), Verma in the 1600 (5:17), Sheridan in the 200 (27.5), Teichgrab in the 100 (13.1), Jones in the shot put (32- 04) and the javelin (107-02) and Woods in the high jump (4-06).
Thirds went to Jordin Stephenson in the 3200 (11:49) and the 400 (64.7), Davis in the 1600 (5:24), the 4X200 relay foursome of Rosella Bernocco, Aisling Cuchna, Emily Land and Woods (1:58), Kantola in the triple jump (30-05) and the 4X400 squadron of Alexandra Yerigan, Hailey Storbeck, Riley Henderson and Stephenson (4:16).
Garnering fourths were Kelsey Kanehen (HJ, 4-06), Emily Wayland (discus, 96- 10), Megan Wyles (800, 2:25), Cuchna (300H, 51.2) and Yerigan (1600, 5:38).
