Girls’ tennis team secures another conference crown
Stanwood’s Lady Spartan tennis team clinched the Western Conference 4A North Division championship with a convincing 5-2 victory over Arlington last week.
In addition to that titlecapturing win over the only team to beat them this season, the Sparts (14-1 in league and overall) beat Lake Stevens as well, 4-3. Full Story
Lady Sparts capture own Stanwood Twilight Invitational
By posting eight victories and having a series of other fine finishes to back them up, the Lady Spartan track and field team outscored a handful of other area high school squads to win the Stanwood Twilight Invitational last Friday evening. Full Story
Spartan diamond team is edged 2-1 in first district game
Stanwood’s baseball nine (8-9 regular season, 8- 10 overall) won their final four league games, including one over Snohomish last week, to qualify for the Western Conference 4A District Championships.
The streak assured the local diamonders fourth place in the north division and a chance to play the No. 3-ranked Marysville- Pilchuck Tomahawks in the first round. Full Story
Borseth, Seth pace shorthanded Spartan linksters
Over the past two weeks, the Lady Spartan golfers have competed in three matches.
The short-handed group scored a combined 64 points using the modified Stableford scoring system while playing Oak Harbor (127 points) and Lake Stevens (110) at the Battle Creek Golf Course. Full Story

Soccer season ends with 1-0 loss
The Stanwood High boys’ soccer club lost 1-0 to Everett last Wednesday evening.
The loss ended the local team’s 2010 season as they finished in sixth place in the WesCo 4A North Division with a 7-7-2 record. Full Story
Spartan golfers win twice in three days at Kayak Point
In a week perhaps unprecedented in local high school golf annals, the Spartan linksters won two successive matches with an allout effort that saw some fine golfing by Stanwood’s boys.
It began on the home course at Kayak Point last Monday afternoon. Full Story
Tracksters race to second
Junior sprinter Josh Entwisle led off the Spartan boys’ track and field effort with a victory in the 100 meters in a time of 11.3 and then was followed by an avalanche of Stanwood runners, jumpers and tossers who finished among the top four during the Stanwood Twilight Invitational last Friday night as the Sparts were edged by Lake Stevens 210-192 in the seven-team competition. The Stanwood eighth grade Amateur Athletic Union girls’ basketball team won the Wesco League Championship on May 1 in Arlington, and went undefeated in the 2010 season. Full Story

Application forms are available at Haggen Food & Pharmacy for grants of up to $10,000 to improve community youth baseball and softball fields.
The Pepsi Refresh Your Field Project, co-sponsored by Haggen Food & Pharmacy, will award a grant of $10,000 and two grants of $5,000 to community fields in Washington. Full Story
