Swearing

Clean up your mouth while on Island Transit
Dear Editor: The buses in the Island Transit system are a great way to travel. They are free. They are pretty clean and they are usually reliable.

But even with these advantages, the transit system is not getting the type of business that it should. There is usually a crowd of people to get off and on, but that crowd could swell if only a few people would watch what they say.

Usually at any time there is a teen or two on the bus, and too often these teens are using foul language that is disturbing to other riders.

Sometimes parents and their kids are on the bus and when they hear these teenagers using horrible language, that could spread to their kids, the parents do not come back.

Swearing is like a virus. Many people who hear swearing often start to use it themselves. This is not beneficial to teenagers that ride the bus, for a teen can be kicked off permanently for using language that other people complain about.

Hearing these swear words is not healthy for the bus drivers either. Many of these drivers will be driving for quite a few more hours and to be hearing people swearing and other people complaining about it must be aggravating for him/her.

If everyone, teachers, parents and the everyday person would try to stop the rapid spread of this “virus of swearing” then maybe the everyday ride on the bus would become more civil and family friendly.
