Beautification
Tidy landscapes attracts visitors
Dear Editor:
Happy spring, Stanwood! Have you notice the blossoms and color?
One thing you may not have noticed is the pride of the business community.
My name is Gretchen Leaf, and I am a volunteer for Design Stanwood.
I am the chairwoman of beautification and landscaping.
For nearly three years, my volunteers and I, along with the Project Serve staff and students, have worked hard to make a positive impact in our lovely community.
Clean-up projects have included weeding the planter triangles, delivering planters to businesses, planting, weeding, mowing and mulching, just to mention a few.
Many business owners have been busy cleaning up and trimming the foliage around the entry of their building.
It is a pleasure to be welcomed into a business by an inviting entry. The importance and impact of cutting back branches, pulling a few weeds, and planting some flowers can not be overstated.
I appreciate the downtown merchants who show pride by planting and maintaining planter boxes.
If you notice, let them know.
And if you notice Design Stanwood volunteers working, give us a wave as you go by, or better yet, stop and get involved.
Together we can make Stanwood a beautiful destination for shopping and eating.
