Camano driver involved in 11-car crash

By JEREMIAH O’HAGAN Staff Reporter

A 20-year-old Camano Island man was involved in an 11-car crash on northbound I-5 near the Starbird Road exit last Tuesday.

He wasn’t injured, but seven other drivers were, according to the Washington State Patrol (WSP) collision report. One refused aid, two were treated and released at the scene, and four were transported to local hospitals. Six of the vehicles were a total loss and nine were either towed or impounded from the scene.

The wreck happened at 6:30 p.m. in a brief but torrential downpour of hail and rain.

WSP reported, “all vehicles traveling northbound failed to reduce speed to accommodate for road and weather conditions.”

Charges are pending for several drivers.

Northbound I-5 was closed briefly, but WSP was able to quickly clear and open the right lane.
