Bomb threat at SHS
A
written bomb threat found in a bathroom at Stanwood High School forced officials to evacuate students and staff on Tuesday.
Students gathered with teachers on the field at the stadium as law enforcement searched the school and grounds with K-9 units.
No device or bomb was found.

Power outage brings two elementary schools together for a day
As
students in the Stanwood- Camano School District prepared for another day of classes early last Monday morning, high winds caused power outages for portions of Camano Island.
Prior to the start of school, both Elger Bay and Utsalady elementaries were affected. Additionally, a downed tree in the driveway of Elger Bay was large enough to block traffic. Full Story

Local upstart, Environite, crafts a “green” plan
A Camano Island company looking for a creative solution to post-consumer waste has created environmentally conscious countertops.
Founded last fall, Environte uses discarded glass, particularly wine and beer bottles, to create “sustainable” and affordable synthetic surfaces that are durable, impervious to stains and discoloration, and, in the end, recyclable again. Full Story

Be aware of hemlock plants
Poisonous plants result in medical emergencies
Already this year, four cases of human ingestion of or exposure to poison hemlock have resulted in emergencies, with one death of an adult recently.
Poison hemlock can be mistaken for many edible and ornamental members of the carrot family such as parsley, sweet cicely, parsnip, wild carrot and anise. They all have similar-looking flowers, leaves and seeds. Full Story
PATRICIA “TRACY” ANN ULLENBRUCH
NOVEMBER 28, 1959 – APRIL 30, 2010
Patricia “Tracy” Ann Ullenbruch passed away April 30, 2010, at the age of 50.
She was born November 28, 1959 in Detroit, Mich., the daughter of Don and Pat Ullenbruch.

David West fell into his final sleep on April 27 at Providence Hospital in Anchorage, Alaska after a long battle with kidney failure. He was surrounded by family and loved ones in his final hours. Full Story
ROBERT L. “BOB” SHAY
JANUARY 10, 1928 – MAY 4, 2010
Robert L. “Bob” Shay, a native of Seattle, ended his life journey at Josephine care facility in Stanwood after a severely debilitating illness.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years Myrna, his brother Chuck of Olympia, sons Michael and John and daughter Chris and their families, all residing in the Seattle area. Full Story
