Works by Karen Bush of Karabella Studio (above), 526 Brentwood Drive, Camano Island, along with 60 other artists, will be represented by one of 35 studios and galleries participating in the 12th annual Camano Arts Association Mother’s Day Studio Tour. The studio tour is a celebration of the major art community in the Northwest. Maps may be found at each of the 35 studios and galleries on this year’s tour along with information about local restaurants, shopping and other activities. Community to discuss marijuana policy
Community members are invited to participate in a discussion with Pat Gallagher, ACLU board member and longtime member of the ACLU Speaker’s Bureau, Wed, May 12, on policies regarding cannabis. Gallagher will give statistics on how the U.S. prison population has increased nearly five fold since the mid 1980s, with 2.3 million prisoners due to cannabis arrests. Before the meeting, a pizza potluck starts at 6:30 p.m. in the Camano Multi-Purpose Building, 141 N. East Camano Drive. Sponsored by the Camano Island Democrats, donations of salad, side-dish or a dessert are welcome.
Scouts serve pancake breakfast
Boy Scout Troop 46 of Camano Island will serve the public pancakes, sausage, eggs, coffee and tea for breakfast Sat, May 8, 7-11 a.m. at the Camano Senior and Community Center, 606 Arrowhead Rd.

The Mabana Flames, along with Dos Reales, are serving lunch during the Mother’s Day Art Tour, noon to 4 p.m. at the Mabana Fire Station, across from Art Tour Studio No. 12, May 7-9.
Sack lunch available during art tour
Utsalady Ladies Aid will offer made-to-order sack lunches at their historical building, at 78 Utsalady Road on Camano, during the art tour May 7 and 8, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Choose from a selection of sandwiches, chips, giant homemade cookies and beverages. Bake sale for Mother’s Day Art Tour
During the Mother’s Day Art Tour, the Madrona Fire Sirens are having a bake sale Sat, May 8, 1-4 p.m. at the Madrona Fire Station, 916 West Fifth Ave. Tour participants are invited to stop for dessert, beverages, coffee. Proceeds will help purchase equipment needed for a new firefighter. Established in 1953, the ladies auxiliary supports both career and volunteer firefighters.
Help the post office gather food Saturday
Volunteers are needed Sat, May 8, to help Stanwood Post Office employees gather food bank donations from around mailboxes. Volunteers are needed to drive their own vehicles around Camano Island, collecting food and delivering it to the food bank in Stanwood. Two-people teams work best: one to drive and one to collect the food. Instructions and signs for cars will be supplied by post office employees that morning. Mother’s Day brunch at yacht club
Dads, sons and kids are invited to bring mom to feast on a brunch overlooking the water at the Camano Island Yacht Club, 129 N. Sunset Drive, 9 a.m. to noon on Mother’s Day. Menu includes bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, omelets, hash browns, pancakes, French toast, fresh fruit, sweet rolls, juices, coffee and tea.
B arbecued hot dogs and bake sale
Camano Animal Shelter Association (CASA) will sponsor a bake sale at the Camano Center (blue building next to the shelter), 141 East Camano Road south of the shopping center, Sat, May 8, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Stop by for barbecue hot dogs, water and free coffee then shop for desserts. Plants will also be available. All proceeds benefit CASA, the local animal shelter.
Women’s club to host speaker on quilts
The Camano Country Club’s Women’s Club will hold their monthly meeting, program and luncheon Mon, May 10 at 10 a.m. Pam Fredrickson, of Cama Beach Quilters, will be speaking on the art of quilting. Debbie Christopher will cater the event. Ladies bridge to follow at 12:30 p.m.

Fire Jets plan fundraiser luncheon
Terry’s Corner Fire Jets will have a fundraising luncheon Mon, May 10, 11:30 a.m., Terry’s Corner Fire Station. Members are encouraged to bring a guest. Raffle tickets will be available for three baskets. Entertainment after lunch will be a few bingo games, with small prizes awarded.
Camano Junction ends season dances
Camano Junction plays their last dance until September Sat., May 15, 7-10 p.m. at Camano Senior and Community Center, 606 Arrowhead Road. Part of the proceeds from the dance will benefit the Stanwood High School Jazz Band, who will play the first set at the dance. Open to the public, all ages welcome. Water resource committee meeting

Camano summer art camps offered
John and Jenna Delzell are offering 11 art camps June 21 through Sept. 2. Register early, there is a cost per child ages 7-17 for each four-day session. A new session starts each week, Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m., and will feature many different art projects. Art for adults classes, on-going, year around, are Wednesdays 3-7 p.m. and Saturdays 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Drinking water forum in progress
Camano Water Systems Association is hosting an eight-week Water Resource Forum facilitated by Larry Bach each Wednesday, 7 p.m. at Lost Lake Community Center. Water purveyors, singleparty well owners, system operators and well drillers will discuss what they can do as a community to address potential drinking water shortages resulting from declining aquifer conditions and seawater intrusion. The forum is designed to facilitate how the community as a whole can monitor and collect aquifer data and become involved in expressing concerns for future drinking water use. Residents are encouraged to invite a neighbor and bring positive direction to the forum meetings, which continue through June 23.
