Roscoe Elden McCall “Rocky”

July 11, 1935 – April 30, 2010

Roscoe Elden McCall was born July 11, 1935 in Brewster, Wash., and passed away from cancer at his home in Stanwood April 30, 2010 while surrounded by family.

He was preceded in death by his father John McCall and mother Martha Morehouse.

Rocky is survived by Loretta C. Malm, his wife of 54 years, and his children Elden, Ellen Hagen and her husband Ronnie, Donald and his wife Rebecca, and Daniel and his wife Christie. He is also survived by his sisters Nora Kohlhepp and Stella Saylor, 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Rocky was a proud friend of Bill W. for 38 years and has touched countless lives.

Throughout his life Rocky worked in various jobs, such as with Boeing during the construction of both the presidential 707 and the mock-up of the 747, as butcher, timber cruzer, real estate agent, and furniture maker.

Rocky worked for 20 years at the Northwest Veterinary Clinic as a veterinary assistant who worked extensively in the embryonic field.

Rocky was a member of the Marysville Rock Club. He was a master craftsman and teacher in lapidary work.

For those who met Rocky, he will be remembered for his story telling, wisdom, courage, compassion and genuine friendship.

If for some reason you couldn’t remember his name, just look for the man with the “Red Hat.”

Viewing will be from 9 a.m. to – 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 5 at Gilbertson’s Funeral Home in Stanwood. The funeral services starts 11 a.m. Thursday, May 6 at Saint Cecilia Catholic Church.

Memorials may be made in memory of “Rocky, the man with the red hat” to the Skagit Valley Hospital Foundation’s Cancer Care Fund, P.O. Box 1376, Mount Vernon, WA 98273.

Rocky was our friend and will be greatly missed.
