Friday Nite Food ‘n Family Fun Fest is Fri, April 30, 5 to 8 p.m. at the historic Camano City Schoolhouse, built in 1905. “Save Our Schoolhouse” capital campaign fundraiser is to acquire, preserve and restore the schoolhouse, located on the Saratoga Passage side of Camano Island. Soup ‘n savory snacks, supper and decadent desserts bake sale. One price feeds one or a family of five; ragtime tunes by fiddle or guitar. Bring your circa 1905 to 1935 photos and memorabilia. Tour the schoolhouse and scenic site. Directions: take Camano Hill Road, in the center of the island, to the junction of Camano Hill Road and West Camano Drive, about four miles. Go south on West Camano Drive to Chapman Road, just below Camano Chapel. The schoolhouse is on Orchid Road adjacent to the fire station. Spring recital features piano students

Youth invited to take shuttle for event
Capstone 1,3,5 high school youth van shuttle service runs from Rite Aid to Camano Chapel every other Tuesday at 7:10 p.m., returning at 9:30 p.m. Meet with friends every first, third, and fifth Tuesday of the month for a fun time of table games, gym games, pool, ping pong, live music, and a short message. Also available are lattes and Italian sodas. The chapel is at 867 S. West Camano Dr., phone is 387-7202.
Classes on Camano for summer session
May 4 through Aug. 26, the public is invited to drop-in at Camano Country Club to try a water aerobics class for free; 11:30 a.m. Tues. and Thurs. No joining fees and the water is warm, 1243 S. Beach Drive. SilverSneakers® muscular strength range of movement class, 10:15 a.m. Tuesday and Thursday. A great class for starters and older adults. Island County children, youth summit
The fifth annual State of Island County’s Children and Youth Summit will be held Fri, April 30, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Coupeville Recreation Hall, 901 NW Alexander. After welcome and introductions, a physical health panel will convene at 9:15, followed by a mental health panel, lunch, community health panel and voices of youth. The St. Aidan’s Episcopal Church annual plant sale is coming Sat, May 8, 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Look for signs on SR 532 after crossing the bridge. Annuals, perennials, veggies of all kinds, plus herbs, bulbs, baby trees.
Walk in three parks Saturday
Join FOCIP in the last guided walk of this season at three parks on Camano: Iverson Spit Preserve, Kristoferson Creek Habitat, and English Boom Historical Park Sat, May 1. Participants should arrive at Iverson Spit Preserve at 9:50 a.m. Iverson Spit is accessed from East Camano Drive via Russell Road east to Sunrise Road then south to Iverson Beach Road. Follow Iverson Beach Road east down to the beach area and drive north to the end. After a short level 1 mile walk with views of Port Susan Bay, a beaver activity area, and the “Hobbit Trail,” drivers will leave there and caravan to Kristoferson Creek Habitat for a short visit. The caravan directions to the next stop at English Boom Historical Park will be handed out at Iverson Spit. The walk at English Boom Historical Park is about a mile in length, on a marsh trail along Skagit Bay. Interpretive boards and a boardwalk are some of the special features of this historical park. The walks occur rain or shine and will be completed by noon. Camano Island trail booklets will be available for a small donation. R ummage and plant sale Friday
There will rummage sale with boutique, home and fashion sections, plus a parking lot plant sale, Fri, April 30, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sat, May 1, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. is scheduled at The Camano Island Yacht Club on the west side of Camano Island, 129 N. Sunset Drive.
AARP Safe Driving program offered
An AARP Driver Safety Program will be held at Camano Senior and Community Center Thurs, May 5, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Bring your current driver’s license with you. There is a small fee for instructional materials.
Parenting workshop offered in May
Island County Human Services, in partnership with Readiness To Learn Foundation, presents “Guiding Good Choices (GGC),” a workshop in May for parents of children ages 9-14. GGC is designed to help parents reduce the risk that their children will develop problems with alcohol and other drugs. There is clear evidence that informed child-rearing practices, attitudes, values, beliefs and behaviors of parents influence whether children will use drugs. Wednesdays, all through May will begin with dinner at 5:30, followed by workshops 6 to 8 p.m. May 5, 12, 19, 26, and June 2 at Coupeville Elementary School Library, 6 S Main Street, Coupeville. Facilitators are Dan N. Bond, MSW, substance abuse prevention specialist, Island County Human Services, Vivian Rogers-Decker, Readiness to Learn Family Advocate for the Coupeville School District.
