Spartan baseball team loses three games

The Spartan baseball nine (2-7 in league) dropped a trio of games last week – two on the field and one by an apparent oversight.

During the second of two Monroe encounters, the Bearcats protested the use of a Stanwood pitcher they alleged had thrown too many innings the day before. Therefore a solid 10- 6 Spartan victory was reversed and the win went to the Cats. No confirmation was received locally concerning that reversal however.

In the week’s initial encounter, Monroe shut out the Sparts 10-0 in six innings of play. The Bearcats allowed just four singles by Stanwood batsmen.

Two days later, on Thursday, the Sparts unleashed a barrage of hits — 12 to be exact — as they outscored Monroe 10-6. Matt Pelham was 3-for-4 and scored three runs to lead the Stanwood effort. The victory was apparently overturned, however, by the successful protest.

Friday afternoon, the Spartans lost to Arlington 4-1. Josh Orcutt produced two of Stanwood’s five hits.
