Spartan tracksters used six victories – three by Kale Schmidt – to defeat Marysville-Pilchuck and Monroe in a conference meet last Thursday.
Those wins by Schmidt in the 800 meters (2:06), high jump (6-00) and long jump (21-02), Ben Ulrich in the 300 hurdles (42.9), Wade Weinert in the 3200 (10:24) and Alexander Bentz in the 400 (54.1) launched the local contingent to a 67-59.5-54.5 triumph over the Tommies and the Bearcats.
Second-place ribbons went to Josh Entwisle in the 100 meter dash (11:49), Tanner Nieman in the 1600 (4:56), Cody Howard in the 3200 (10:58), the 4X100 relay squad of Andrew Downing, Schmidt, Entwisle, and Bentz (44.9), Alex Hatley in the shot put (47-06) and Joe Eidsness in the javelin (150-10).
Thirds were earned by Spartans Trevor Fekkes in the long jump (18- 08), Mitchel Chitwood in the 800 (2:12), Aaron Sandquist in the 3200 (11:02), the 4X400 relay foursome of Travis Stone, Bentz, Eidsness and Ulrich (3:43), Entwisle in the 200 (23.7), Eidsness in the 300 hurdles (44.6), Hatley in the discus (125-04) and Ulrich in the 110 hurdles (17.8).
Taking fourth were Michael Randall (discus, 123- 11), Travis Stone (Pole Vault, 11-00), Howard (1600, 5:01) and Fekkes (110H, 17.9; HJ, 5-08).
“Mitchel Chitwood, one of our seniors, again had a lifetime PR in the 800,” said head coach Jordan Sneva. “That is two in a row for him. Joe Eidsness threw a lifetime personal best in the javelin. It must be the new javelin we got last week,” he added.
