Why can’t agencies share quarters?

Dear Editor:

Whenever I drive by the Island County Sheriff’s office on Camano, I can’t help but see the pitiful modular that houses these brave people who keep us safe night and day. Sometimes just one and sometimes two deputies are on duty to cover all of Camano Island.

The old modular that our deputies work out of is very substandard to say the least. Drive by and see for yourself.

By contrast, the Camano Island Fire and Rescue has just purchased a $1.3 million facility at Terry’s Comer for their administration.

The new facility can’t even be used for fire trucks, as it isn’t designed for that purpose. In addition to this property, the fire department is also in the process of constructing a new fire station on West Camano Drive.

Why can’t the fire department and the sheriff’s department share the beautiful facility at Terry’s Corner? The building is large enough to house both departments.

The deputies who put their lives on the line each time they put on their uniforms deserve such a facility.

Where is the fairness? Bobby M. Hooper Camano Island
