Dashed dreams
Please help save our pool
Dear Editor:
I am writing on behalf of all the people who find gratification in swimming.
We all feel that swimming is an important aspect of our lives. It helps us have a good time, loosen up after a stressful day, keep fit and make amazing friends.
If the swimming pool in Stanwood closes due to the failing ventilation system, not only will I be disappointed but all the high school swimmers, Steelhead swimmers, children taking lessons, and the gold and silver members of Team Fitness will be disappointed.
It would dash my dream of trying out for high school swim team, along with many others.
What about all the children who want to learn how to swim and make swimming part of their life? What about all the seniors in high school who have been training for countless hours so that they could go to state or swim in college or even make it to the Olympics?
What about the freshmen, who just discovered swimming and love every minute of it?
What about the sophomores and juniors who have a dream, but won’t be able to accomplish it with the pool closed?
What about me? An average eighth-grade girl who appreciates and cherishes swimming, who feels that swimming has brought her closer to her friends and taught her that you don’t have to be the best, but to try your best.
Swimming is one thing I’m good at and something that I don’t want to stop doing. People need to realize that when they cover up that pool for good, they won’t just be hurting me; they will be hurting the people in our community.
Please, take the time to think about what closing that pool will do to all of us. Take the time to think about all the dreams you had as a teenager and how you would have felt if they were suddenly ripped from your grasp.
Please help me save our pool.
K. Taylor, 14 Stanwood
