Surviving cardiac arrest

In 2007, at the age of 50, the women’s basketball coach at Washington State University, June Daugherty, suffered a cardiac arrest and was admitted to the hospital in critical condition.
Daugherty has since made a full recovery and has become a major advocate for healthy heart awareness.
She is now one of the nation’s most visible spokespersons, having filmed a nationally-aired commercial and speaking at fundraisers for the Hope Heart Institute and the American Red Cross.
Daugherty will bring her dynamic personality to the podium providing information on symptoms of heart disease for all women to be aware of and suggestions for preventing it at the spring Women’s Health Luncheon sponsored by Skagit Regional Heart & Vascular Institute on Thursday, April 29, 11:30 a.m. – 1:15 p.m., at Mc- Intyre Hall, 2501 E. College Way, Mount Vernon. Admission is $15 including lunch; pre-registration required by April 26.
Later that day, (6 - 7 p.m., April 29) Daugherty will be at the Burlington-Edision High School Cafetorium/PAC, 301 N. Burlington Blvd. She will describe her personal journey as a survivor of sudden cardiac arrest. She will provide information on the importance of getting and staying fit, for youth as well as adults, and she’ll discuss conditioning for athletes and listening to the body under duress. The evening event is free, but pre-registration is required.
