Slow down or pay up
State patrol and local law enforcement agencies are teaming up to catch speeders through the Slow Down or Pay Up campaign, developed by the Washington Traffic Safety Commission.
This is the first statewide enforcement campaign to catch speeders in Washington, said Andrea D. Wedderburn, on behalf of WTSC.
From 2004 to 2008, speeding was a critical factor in 40 percent of all traffic fatalities in the state.
Slow Down or Pay Up is a key component of the Strategic Highway Safety Plan — Target Zero. The vision of Target Zero is zero deaths and serious injuries from traffic crashes in Washington by the year 2030.
Through May 1, there will be extra speeding patrols throughout Washington from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Fridays and from noon to 8 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
