calls last week:
• Several items were stolen April 11 in vehicle prowls in the 28000 block of 72nd Drive NW.
• On April 11, 13- and 14-year-old Stanwood boys were contacted in the 26600 block of 72nd Avenue NW regarding shoplifting. Full Story
City administrator put on leave
Joyce Papke, city administrator, was put on administrative leave last Monday, Mayor Dianne White said.
The city’s attorney, Grant Weed, drafted the letter of notice to Papke over the weekend, White said. The letter details that there is to be no contact between Papke and city officials until the undisclosed matter is resolved.
White declined to comment further. Full Story
Man arrested on conspiracy to kill Snohomish county deputies
Michael McConnachie, 19, was charged last Wednesday with conspiracy to commit first-degree assault.
The 19-year-old man was arrested last Sunday after a burglary suspect told police McConnachie was looking for someone to help him kill deputies. He remains in jail on $350,000 bail. Full Story
Fresh faces on the planning commission
Stanwood welcomed two new planning commissioners to its city ranks last week.
Mayor Dianne White selected Elizabeth Callaghan and Jeff Laycock from a pool of four applicants and recommended them to city council, which unanimously approved their appointment. Full Story
Driver of fatal crash released from hospital
As detectives continue investigating the April 10 wreck that killed 17-yearold Ellen Floyd, a memorial stands in her honor at the crash site, near the intersection of Old 99 North and 300th Street NW.
Floyd was thrown from the convertible Mustang and died on the scene, of head injuries. Full Story
Winco recalls ground beef
WinCo supermarkets is recalling all ground beef products sold at its stores last week in packaged styrofoam trays after E. coli was found in two samples, including stores in Washington.
WinCo Foods issued the voluntary recall on Saturday. It includes ground beef sold from April 3 through April 9. An earlier recall included the last 13 days of March to early April in Oregon. Full Story
Slow down or pay up
State patrol and local law enforcement agencies are teaming up to catch speeders through the Slow Down or Pay Up campaign, developed by the Washington Traffic Safety Commission.
This is the first statewide enforcement campaign to catch speeders in Washington, said Andrea D. Wedderburn, on behalf of WTSC. Full Story

Reardon applauds Council for supplemental budget
Snohomish County Council’s 2010 budget, passed in November 2009, was modified Wednesday to take into account a continuing drop in revenues due to the stalled economy. The new budget calls for all county departments to decrease spending, putting expenditures more in line with projected revenues for 2010. Full Story
