Leading 1-0 after five innings, the Spartans baseball team hit a rough spot in the top of the sixth frame against Oak Harbor Wednesday afternoon.
The Wildcats took advantage of a pair of bases on balls, two hit batters, an error, a wild pitch and their only hit of the inning to go ahead of the Sparts 5-1.
OH’s Patrick Higbee knocked in two runs with a solid single to send the Cats ahead for good.
A Spartan run in the bottom of the sixth and two plate crossings in the latter part of the seventh frame failed to overcome Oak Harbor’s lead as the visitors won 5-4.
Josh Orcutt finished the game 2-for-2 with two runs-batted-in and a run scored to pace the local effort.
At the Whidbey Islandbased school two days later, the Sparts tallied in the second and third innings but lost a 12-2 game as their record dropped to 2- 4 in league, 3-4 overall.
Stanwood’s Cory Calkins had the club’s only extra-base hit, a double.
