Murphy, Black discuss current events
Wed, April 14, local college students and active community members Tyler Murphy and Colin Black, will discuss the effects that current times will have on the next generation of leaders and the country. The event will be held in the Camano Multi-Purpose Building, 141 East Camano Drive, 7 p.m. Both students are interested in political science and make it their duty to inform themselves and others about current events and pressing issues affecting America and its youth. They will discuss various subjects (education, health care, economics, etc.), as well as answer questions from the audience. Presented by the Camano Island Democrats; everyone is welcome.
Island Red Cross covers mainland area
Visitors from Stanwood are invited to attend American Red Cross meetings every third Wednesday of each month at Madrona Fire Hall, 916 West 5th Street, Camano. The next meeting will be Mon, April 19, 7 p.m. For more information, contact the Camano Disaster Action Team leaders, 387-5026.
Water systems set quarterly meeting
The quarterly meeting of Camano Water Systems association will be Wed, April 21, 6:30 p.m., with coffee at Lost Lake Community. The 7 p.m. meeting topic will be on the importance of well owners being a part of an overall groundwater management plan. This includes the monitoring of all wells including privately-owned exempt wells. Discussion will cover current aquifer stress, Island County Water Resource Management Plan, Camano’s sustainable future water, protecting your water right (will the state help?), and other issues as they arise.

Garden club to tour flower fields
Camano Garden Club will meet Thurs, April 15, 9:30 a.m., at the Camano Commons Park & Ride to carpool to this month’s destination – WSU Discovery Garden, Tulip Town and Roozengarde. Numerous gardens “to discover” and learn different techniques used in gardening. Pack a lunch. Note there is an entry fee to Tulip Town. Dress for the weather. Third Friday of the month grange dance
Fri., Apr. 16 is the South Camano Grange third Friday of the Month dance. Practice your moves and learn some too: mix of swing, ballroom, Latin and country, including East Coast swing, West Coast swing, waltz, foxtrot, nightclub two step, rumba, cha cha, country two step, cowboy cha cha and the electric slide. Beginning country two step lesson starts at 7:30 p.m. (free with paid admission to the dance); followed by general dancing 8:15 to 10:30 p.m. 2227 S. Camano Drive, just south of Elger Bay Cafe. FOCIP work party at state parks
Friends of Camano Island Parks volunteers will be hosting a work party at Camano Island state parks next week. Meet at 9:30 a.m. Tues., Apr. 20, Camano Island State Park ranger station. Second annual Women’s Expo
The second annual Women’s Expo is Sat, April 24, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Camano Senior and Community Center. Featuring 50 local businesses serving women: special interest speakers, cooking demonstrations, fashion show, wine tasting and networking. There is an admission, lunch available for purchase. Discover the world of bird nests
Learn the ways “feathered architects,” from eagles to hummingbirds, make nests and discover interesting facts about nest construction and placement. Wed., April 21, 7 p.m., at the Camano Multipurpose Center, 141 East Camano Drive. Idie Ulsh, Seattle Audubon Master Birder and nature photographer, will share photos and observations from her intensive study of bird nests. This presentation is part of a public education series hosted the third Wednesday of the month by the Camano Wildlife Habitat Project, sponsored by Friends of Camano Island Parks as part of the Island County watershed project.
