Stanwood man steals car then flees on bike

A Stanwood man was arrested Thursday in connection with a stolen vehicle.

Lake Stevens Police Chief Randy Celori said officers received a LoJack (wireless transmitter and recovery system) hit on a Mercedes that came back registered to a Seattle address and found the vehicle near Target, close to the intersection of Market Place and Highway 9.

Celori said the vehicle fled south in an attempt to elude officers. The man eventually abandoned the car in a ditch near the intersection of Highway 9 and Highway 92 and fled on foot.

When officers chased him, he ran into a barn and emerged pedaling a bicycle. Police caught him shortly afterward.

The man was taken into custody and initially booked into Snohomish County Jail in connection with felony charges of eluding police, Celori said.
