A car crash early Saturday morning took the life of a Stanwood teenage girl and seriously injured a Camano Island man, according to Rebecca Hover, spokeswoman for Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash occurred around 4 a.m. on Old Pacific Highway just south of 300th Street NW. The northbound vehicle, a Ford Mustang, left the road, went airborne and crashed, said Hover.
The girl was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was transported to an area hospital.
Detectives with the Collision Investigation Unit are investigating the accident.
“Speed appears to be a factor,” said Hover.
Sources identified the passenger as 17-year-old Ellen Floyd, a former Stanwood High School (SHS) student. Floyd was not currently enrolled with SHS.
Sources also indicate the driver is a former SHS student. His condition, name and age could not be confirmed. The man is believed to be in his late teens to early 20s. According to Floyd’s Facebook page, a memorial is scheduled for Friday, 4 p.m. at Stanwood Foursquare Church.
