Mary Harmon hits century mark

Mary Harmon Mary Harmon Mary Harmon, the woman with the welcoming smile for all she meets, turns 100 on April 24. Friends and family are invited to celebrate with her on that day at Friendsview Manor, The Auditorium, 1301 Fulton Street in Newberg, Ore. If you wish to send greetings, use the above address, zip code is 97132.

The birthday woman has always enjoyed music, singing in the church choir, playing the piano or singing to her children when they were young. She was a fabulous hostess; wherever she lived, her hospitality was appreciated, entertaining individuals as well as large groups in her home. She was especially known for her roast beef dinners with all the trimmings and sending home baggies of goodies with her grandchildren.

With her husband Howard, they owned greenhouses over the years where she worked long hours caring for the plants as well as filling orders for corsages and bouquets. Howard, was the director of horticulture at Point Defiance Park in Tacoma.

She is the mother of three children, grandmother of eight, great-grandmother of 19, and a great-greatgrandmother of 13. Mary has always been supportive of her family during their challenges and accomplishments. She and her husband were substitute grandparents and were masters at affirming others without ever taking a psychology class!

Mary believes that her longevity is because of her love for her Lord and the desire to follow His will. She has lived a life with a positive attitude and outlook, always seeing the good in people and encouraging her children as well as others to better themselves, go the direction the Lord was leading them.

In addition to the birthday celebration for Mary, her son, Howie is turning 80 on the same day. Now, how many mothers are blessed to share their birthday with a child, let alone two mile- stone birthdays such as 100 and 80?
