Stanwood

Beautiful place blessed with excellent schools and teachers

Dear Editor:

Stanwood is a lucky town.

As a Stanwood High School graduate I’m happy to have two children attending schools here, along with my nephews. Our great luck in living in this beautiful place is enhanced by the schools we are blessed with.

My son and nephews go to Stanwood Elementary School.

In one day I left a teacher conference with Mrs. Julie Moores who has done a fabulous job with my little boy. What a lovely gem she is: patient and kind, firm and focused. My boy’s progress on every level has been tremendous.

Later that evening the fifth graders of the same school put on a play. Well done, indeed! The teacher, Pauline Vanbelle, said these plays were a kind of a hob- by for her and she put her passion to good work for our students. They sang and acted their hearts out!

Farther up the hill where our Stanwood High School students recently won the HI-Q championship (BRAVO!), a new model of an elementary school is rapidly taking shape in our senior center. Summit Academy, growing to include children from kindergarten through third grade next year, is a fabulous school. My daughter goes there, and we couldn’t be more blessed. Teachers Linda Henning and Christine Kuntz take the children to the fields and the shores of this beautiful land regularly to examine bird prints and flight, and nature’s every nuance. They write about it, draw and paint it, and come to appreciate it in a way that we can only hope that all of our citizens do.

Indeed, Stanwood is blessed.

As Summit grows, it will only serve to bring fresh ideas and energy to an academic environment that Stanwood’s public schools are already working hard to achieve.
