Bob Larson
He was an excellent role model
The community lost a great man when Bob Larson died. He will be missed. He was not only an excellent superintendent of schools here, but after retirement from that position, he served two terms as Stanwood’s mayor.
Bob served with distinction in those capacities, but it was as a Kiwanian that I will remember him most.
I was in that community service club with him for about 11 years or so. I think of him in a white apron flipping pancakes at a fund-raising breakfast -- at the only middle school we had in those days.
Bob always wore a wide smile and burst forth with a hearty laugh.
I will remember him, sweating over a hot fire and dodging smoke at the fair, cranking out salmon (remember those days?) or chicken to raise more money for more good causes. He always volunteered to organize and head up crews for these (and many other) events.
In politics, he was forever talking with everyone, listening to both sides, learning the facts, and seeking to solve the thorniest of problems.
In lighter community activities, he used those same people skills to make his full life even fuller.
Bob was a good and giving man. He was a role model.
