Spartan’s Mark Pelham has solid week at the plate
The Spartan baseball nine (0-2 in league, 1-2 overall) slapped out six hits that resulted in three runs in the first inning of their game with Archbishop Murphy High School, but it took a fifth-inning sacrifice fly by centerfielder Michael Mc- Cune to put the game away, 4-3, in a nonconference encounter Saturday afternoon. Young golfers win two matches
The Lady Spartans’ 2010 golf season got underway last week as a number of underclassmen took on several league and non-conference opponents in a pair of matches.
In Tuesday’s round with league members Lake Stevens and Arlington, sophomore Jade Borseth paced the local effort with 14 modified Stableford points over the nine-hole Gleneagle Golf Course near Arlington. Full Story

Tracksters edged in tri-meet at Oak Harbor
Track and field veterans Robert Hanke and Kale Schmidt each won two events during the Spartan boys’ tri-meet with Everett’s Cascade and Oak Harbor. The Stanwood team just missed winning the meet as the Bruins accumulated 72 points to the Sparts’ 71.5 points. The Wildcats took third with 36.5 points. Full Story
Stanwood takes second in girls’ tri-meet at Oak Harbor
A strong showing in two of the throwing events, including a triple win by sophomore field specialist Kaci Jones, failed to propel the Lady Spartan track to a victory during a tri-meet with Oak Harbor and Cascade last Wednesday afternoon. Full Story
Spartan booters tie knots in tails of Panthers, Bearcats
Snohomish’s Panthers (4-0-1, 13 points), expected by many observers to be this season’s North Division champion, were slowed down a bit by the resurgent Stanwood boys’ soccer team (2-1-2, 8 points, 4th place in league) last Tuesday evening. Full Story
Linksters lose close one to Tommies, Bearcats at Kayak
Stanwood’s boys’ golf team hosted Marysville-Pilchuck and Monroe on their home course, Kayak Point Golf Course, and battled the two WesCo 4A North teams down to the wire. The Tomahawks won the tri-meet with 421 points while Monroe followed with 444. The Sparts finished with 449 points, taking third overall. Full Story
