Camano Island Library Pilot Project will be offering the following programs over spring break: “Diary of a Wimpy Kid,” games and prizes, Wed, March 31, 1 p.m. Kids are invited to test their knowledge and play wimpy kid games in preparation for the movie. Two free movie tickets will be given away to the new Wimpy Kid movie. Beads and Beading is the April1 program at 1p.m. Everyone will have a bead project to make and take home.
Annual Easter egg hunt Saturday
Camano Chapel’s annual Easter egg hunt is Sat, April 3, with an 11 a.m. start (arrive early to register) in the gym. Open to all youth ages 2-10 years old and the people who love them. Bring your own baskets for collecting eggs. Door prizes and free hot dog lunch to follow the hunt. Camano Chapel is located at 867 S. West Camano Drive. Questions? Call 387-7202.
Dirt cake at playground groundbreaking
The Rotary Adventure Playground will hold its official groundbreaking ceremony Sat, April 10, 1 to 4 p.m. in Freedom Park, located at Terry’s Corner at the gateway to Camano Island. Attendees can look at design plans and heavyduty equipment for the playground to be built in five days by community volunteers May 19–23. The event will include a ceremonial “dirt cake,” donated courtesy of the Camano Plaza IGA. Bulldozer groundbreaking kicks off the event, and playground aficionados can create paper chains for the official ribbon cutting in May. There will be selfguided playground tours, firefighting equipment, pet an alpaca, view more information on the project, etc. The playground is a community effort, involving volunteers and donations. ‘Livery’ open at CWB, volunteer op
“Livery, n., a business that offers boats for hire.” The Center for Wooden Boats at Cama Beach livery is open. Historic wooden row and sailboats available for rent during regular winter hours, 10 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Thursday–Saturday or by appointment. New volunteers and projects welcome. Documentary ‘The Cross’ at chapel
Camano Chapel invites all ages 12 and up to see the movie “The Cross,” Wed, March 31, 6:30 p.m. The 90-minute documentary is about Arthur Blessitt and his 40-year journey carrying a 12-foot wooden cross into every country in the world, that will inspire viewers and leave them with the true meaning of Easter. W omen’s club to hear about organics
Camano Country Club Women’s Club will hold its 10 a.m. meeting followed by a program and luncheon Mon, April 12. Guest speaker, John Stevens of Open Gate Farm, will cover nutrition, organic produce and preparation of soil and seeds. Guests and male members are invited to attend, reservations are required for the luncheon. Debbie Christopher will cater. Ladies bridge follows at 12:30 by reservation only. Ladies golf club begins spring season
The Camaloch Ladies 18 Hole Golf Club begins its 2010 season Tues, April 6, with a 7:30 a.m. meeting in the Camaloch Golf Course clubhouse. It will be followed by a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. The day’s competition will be monthly medal.
Take guided walks in state parks
Join Friends of Camano Island Parks members on a 9:50 a.m. guided community walk from Cama Beach State Park to Camano Island State Park Sat., April 3. Meet at the Dry Lake Road and Ivy Road junction, 1.4 miles from Elger Bay Road. Walk the Cross Island Trail through Cama and south to Camano Island State Park, ending at the South Beach picnic shelter. The distance of the walk is approximately 3.3 miles one way, and a shuttle is available for the return trip. The approximately two-hour walk takes place rain or shine; wear appropriate clothes and sturdy shoes or boots. Seagrass Gallery presents ‘mother/son’

Junior golf program set, signup soon
Camaloch men’s and ladies’ golf clubs are holding their annual junior golfprogram beginning May 11. Signups for new participants begins Mon, April 19 through May 4, at student/parent night in the clubhouse, 7 p.m. Conducted by volunteers, the program is designed to introduce golf to youngsters ages 10-17. The Mabana Flames will hold an April 1 meeting, 10 a.m., an “organizing” meeting for the annual plant sale set for April 24. For newcomers to Camano Island, the Mabana Flames is the auxiliary that supports volunteer firefighters, and helps provide aid in the event of a disaster. April 11-13, there will be six different 6.2 mile walk routes, two each day, on Camano Island. Shorted routes available. Sunday, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m., register/start at Cama Beach State Park, two different 3.1 mile or 6.2 mile walk routes within the Cama Beach and Camano Island state parks, rated moderately easy. Monday, 9:30 a.m., register/start at Cavalero Beach County Park, either a 3.1 mile or 6.2 mile group walk on country roads and trails, rated moderately easy. Register/start at Iverson Spit Preserve parking lot, 1:30 p.m., either a 3.7 or 6.8 mile group walk with views of Livingston Bay/Port Susan, rated moderately easy. Tuesday, 9:30 a.m., register/start at Maple Grove Boat Launch, either a 3.1 mile or 6.2 mile group walk rated moderate. Stanwood, 1:30 p.m., register/start at The Sport Club, 7213 267th NW, either a 3.1 mile or 6.2 mile group walk in residential neighborhoods and downtown. Rated moderate.
