A 14-year-old boy was airlifted to Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center on Wednesday, after being struck by a pickup truck.
The collision occurred at 4:15 p.m. at the intersection of Dan Street and Elhardt Street, a residential Elger Bay area, said Levon Yengoyan, assistant chief of Camano Island Fire and Rescue.
Island County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident, and Detective Jay Wallace said a “jacked up” truck cut the corner of the intersection and struck the boy, who was sitting on the shoulder with his friends.
Wallace said the driver might have had poor visibility due the height of the truck.
Yengoyan said although the collision was relatively low-speed, the boy was in serious condition.
Wallace confirmed that as of Wednesday night, the boy was at least conscious and coherent, and not in critical condition.
The investigation is ongoing.
