Health care

Of the people, for the people

Dear Editor:

The Seattle Times featured an article Friday written by Jeff Zeleny of the New York Times who said that Nancy Pelosi is determining which Democrats “will be allowed to vote no” on the health care legislation currently being rammed through Congress.

I guess I must be naive.

For some reason I thought that our representatives were free to decide themselves how they should vote.

Since when did Nancy Pelosi and the leaders of the Democratic Party have so much control over the representatives? How did they accomplish such control?

I was under the impression that voters sent a representative to Congress to vote the will of the constituents, or at least use their own judgment.

I guess that is no longer the case. We just send robots to Congress and Nancy Pelosi and the Democratic Party leaders push the “Yea” or “Nay” button on each robot. Democrats should be livid.

Those you elected have been reduced to robots. Since when, is it in the best interest of this nation for a small number of so-called party leaders to have so much control? This government was founded on the principal “of the people, by the people and for the people” and not “of the party, by the party and for the party.”

Another thing — we know that the party exerts a large influence over its members, but they’ve never said in the printed word “who will be allowed to vote no.”

The party and its media operatives have now declared that we, the people, are so dumb that they can publicly state that party leaders are in complete control, and we just accept it.

I encourage every one to make their voice heard regarding this type of outrageous takeover of our governmental. Write your congressman. Let them know that you expect them to vote their constituents view and not the Democratic Party’s.

Let them know that you believe in the democratic process of deliberation and open debate and discussion.
