Blood drive
Donors helped up to 117 patients
Dear Editor:
On behalf of the Puget Sound Blood Center and the numerous patients in our community, I wish to extend my heartfelt thanks to all who attended the Chuck Heckman Memorial Blood Drive March 20.
The drive registered 44 donors and collected 39 units of blood to benefit up to 117 patients in the community.
Each day, 900 people must donate blood to meet the needs of Northwest patients.
The blood center is currently in crisis for all types of blood.
The following patients are just a few that received blood from the Puget Sound Blood Center recently, thanks to donors like those in Stanwood:
• 65-year-old male at University Hospital who was issued 43 components of blood for a heart transplant.
• 37-year-old male at Harborview with pancreatitis, sepsis was issued 28 components of blood.
• A 54-year-old victim of a vehicle accident was issued 43 components of blood.
• A 60-year-old patient with bladder cancer was issued 45 components of blood.
• A 31-year-old patient in a crush injury was issued 131 components of blood.
