Corrections in people of the year nominations
One nominee for Woman of the Year was inadvertently left off the list in the March 23 edition of the NEWS.
Suzanna Mantis, of Z’s, was nominated for all the time and effort she gives to the community, including a shoe collection drive for Shoes4Souls for victims of the earthquake in Haiti, and coats for those in need.
Woman of the Year nominee Sue Hunt, should have read Sue Hunter.
Hunter has been an active member in Design Stanwood and was instrumental in getting a train station here, establishing SnoGold to promote tourism in north Snohomish County, and also led the Glass Quest event during the Winter Olympics.
Glass Quest, hand blown glass floats that were hidden around the area to promote tourism during the Olympic games, was the brainchild of Business Person of the Year nominee, Doris Platis. The glass floats were generously made and donated by fellow nominee and artist Mark Ellinger. Participating businesses gave out clues to locations of the glass floats, bringing an estimated 12,000 visitors into area businesses.
In addition, Dr. James Grierson, Man of the Year nominee, has gone to Haiti with the medical missions group from Camano Chapel, not with Doctors without Borders. Man of the Year nominee Marcus Bresko leads two Boy Scout dens, is the director of Boy Scout pack 46 and is also a Little League coach.
Some nominees were listed in the wrong category, but the information is still valid. The ballot for man, woman and business person of 2009 is located on page B4 and B5 in this week’s paper. Ballots are due by April 8 and can be dropped off at any of the participating businesses on pages B4, B5 or at the NEWS
office.
