ROGER KASTNING

OCTOBER 19, 1933 – MARCH 9, 2010

Roger Kastning was born October 19, 1933 in Govan, Saskatchewan to German emigrants Gaylord and Georgia Kastning. In 1947 the family moved from Govan to Ellensburg. Rober graduated from Thorp High School in 1951.

He met Edna Henson on a blind date in 1952 and they were married on April 11, 1953.

Roger was in the Army for two years, May of 1953 to May of 1955.

They then moved to Mercer Island where they lived for seven years. When the house became too small for four kids (Stephen Lee, Brenda Ann, Kevin Bruce and Darin Mark) they packed up and moved to Bothell, where they raised their kids for the next 17 years.

In 1979, they moved to Whidbey Island.

Roger worked in the automotive industry as an auto glass installer and manager for a Seattle-based company.

In 1980, Roger was finally able to live his dream when he opened his own auto glass company and became successful and well-respected.

Roger and Edna retired in 1998. They moved to Camano Island in 2000 where they lived until 2007.

Roger was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2006 but had symptoms much earlier. They moved to Green Acres Mobile Home Park in November of 2007 where they lived until his death on March 9, 2010.

He is preceded in death by his son Stephen.

He is survived by wife Edna, his daughter Brenda and her husband Jim, and sons Kevin and wife Vicki, and Darin and husband Patrick, 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Bothell and will be greatly missed.
