Stanwood turns purple with pride
The Stanwood-Camano Relay for Life Committee is asking local businesses and residents to “Paint the Town Purple” this week.
Decorate windows, front entrances and landscapes in purple to show support for the relay on May 21 at Stanwood High School. There will be a prize for “Best Purple Window Display.” Full Story

Number two pencils stood at attention last week as Stanwood High School (SHS) students tackled portions of the new state exam.

Burglary interrupted at Bartell Drugs
Late Sunday night, Stanwood police officers interrupted a burglary at Bartell Drugs and arrested a Stanwood boy who was apparently after cigarettes.
Ty Trenary, police chief, said the suspect kicked in the store’s glass front door to gain access, and then broke into the glass-fronted cabinet where the cigarettes are shelved. Full Story
Secretary of State Reed to undergo cancer surgery
Secretary of State Sam Reed has been diagnosed with kidney cancer and had surgery at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle Monday, March 22.
He is expected to make a full recovery and will return to work after a brief recuperation. Full Story
