A benefit for Stanwood’s Safe Harbor Free Clinic features Zumba dancing at the Cascade Mall 6:30 – 8 p.m. April 10. A popular Latin music inspired dance fitness program, Zumba has an avid – some say rabid – fan base in Stanwood and Camano area, packing classrooms around the community. This fun and healthy activity is a most appropriate source of funds for the medical clinic, which offers care to uninsured and low-income patients in Stanwood since June 2009.

Snohomish County will host a public workshop to discuss potential changes to the day use portion of Kayak Point Regional Park Wed, March 31, 6:30 p.m. at Lake Goodwin Community Club, 17323 42nd Ave. NW. The meeting will be an opportunity for residents and park users to offer feedback on design alternatives. Planning for improvements to the day use portion of the park is being considered in response to maintenance, ecological and user issues that have arisen during the past several years. P et food, toy drive benefits NOAH
Girl Scout Brownie Troop 42007 of Stanwood is asking the community to help with their efforts in a service project for NOAH. The girls have made blankets and small toys, and now are collecting donations to deliver to the animal shelter. A pet food and toy drive will be held Sat, March 27, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at The Country Store in Stanwood.
Day of Recollection this Saturday
Saint Bernard of Clairvaux will be the topic for the Day of Recollection Sat, March 27 at the Carmelite Institute of Spirituality, 27008 78th Ave NW. Presenter is Fr. Early notice of Easter services
Freeborn Lutheran Church will start off Easter Sunday celebration with a free breakfast/brunch April 4, 8:45 a.m. in the fellowship hall. Access is down around the back of the church. Resurrection worship service is at 10 a.m., followed by coffee and cookies. A free Easter egg hunt is set for 11:30 a.m. for ages 12 and younger; bring your own small basket. Easter egg hunt open to public

Chef competition benefits Relay for Life
During the final weekend of the Unclad exhibit at Gallery by the Bay, a wine tasting and chef competition is planned to benefit Relay for Life, 6 – 9 p.m. Sat, March 27. Four chefs will create appetizers and four wine vendors will provide beverages, a fundraiser for cancer research, with live music by Tim Gaskins, at 8700 271st St NW. For reservations, call 629-4297.
Youth invited for spring break activities
Spring break at Davis Place is Mon, March 29 and Wed, March 30, 12 noon-5:30 p.m. Hang out with friends, play board games, Guitar Hero and Wii sports, or just relax and have a good time. Free lunch served 12-2 p.m. Middle and high school aged youth welcome. Davis Place is located across the street from the library at 9612 271st NW in Stanwood. The deadline to submit entries for the Youth Arts Festival poster contest is April 8. The winning poster entry will be used to advertise the festival throughout the Stanwood Camano area. Entries must be on a flat medium 11 inches by 17 inches with 3 ½ inches of blank space at the bottom for lettering. First place winner receives $100, second place $50, third place $25. Merrill Garden supports 55+ Fair
The first annual 55+ Community Resource Fair is Sat, March 27, 10 a.m. to 3:30 pm. at the Camano Senior and Community Center, 606 Arrowhead Road. Pruning series continues at nursery
Sat, March 27, is the third installment in the pruning series offered by Morning Light Design at Christianson’s Nursery. These espalier programs are a favorite and in this class, other intriguing aspects of architectural gardening will be discussed, including the popular allée. Foundation accepting grant applications
The Greater Everett Community Foundation is now accepting grant applications for the Arts & Culture Fund, which is “to promote the artistic and cultural development of Snohomish County, helping to ensure the growth of local arts experiences by providing funding and support for diverse, high quality programs.” Grants are made to organizations and artists that serve Snohomish County. Spring cleaning for a good cause
The members of Stanwood High School’s National English Honors Society invite the Stanwood-Camano community to donate used books for a spring book sale to benefit the American Red Cross for Haitian Relief. Books can be dropped off at Stanwood High School until March 26. If you have a lot of books, arrangements can be made to have them picked up.
