Tyler Swanson and James McCune both received fouryear varsity swim emblems at the recent boys’ swim banquet held at Stanwood High School. In addition, they, along with fellow senior Pender Rink, served as co-captains for the squad after a vote of their teammates prior to the 2009-2010 campaign.
Junior aquanaut Matt Roe, who garnered All-4A WesCo North Division honors in the 500 freestyle and 200 individual medley after setting several all-time SHS state-level swim marks, earned high-point (198) status and was determined to be Most Valuable Spartan Swimmer.
Freshman Jacob Land and sophomore Gunnar Guddal, who made 14 and 13 improvements, respectively, during the course of the season, took home Most Improved plaques for their efforts.
David Escobar, a freshman, was given the Ironman Award.
Shawn Kelley, yet another ninth-grader, was given the Coaches Award by comentors Nancy Rink and Art Wiper.

“Shawn was a very hard worker who was always first on the deck, always swam a full set and we could always depend on him to count the set right,” Rink said.
Three-year letter winners for the team were Tim Hammer, Aaron Rice, Hayden Giesbrecht, Pender Rink and Matt Roe.
Justin Murrell and Cole Farnsworth, a pair of sophomores, were presented with their second emblems.
Taking home their first letters were Cameron Chaplik, Austin Wehr, Josh Schuh, Kenny Fenley, Kevin Escobar, David Escobar and Jacob Land.
Earning certificates of participation were Chaz Padon, Casey O’Heron, Logan Krohn, Andrew Stahl, Bo Luce, Shane Finnerty, Nathan Beykovsky, Aaron Sandquist, Gunnar Guddal, Santo Aldapa, Skyler Wright, Jonah Williams, Tanner Nieman, Shawn Kelley, Earnest Borthwick and Lance Belanger.
Cody Meyer (third letter) and Jayci Koning (second letter) were recognized for their valuable contributions as swim team managers during the 2009-2010 season.
“Special thank-yous go out to all the families who hosted dinners during the year, all our wonderfully dedicated timers, as well as Seri Chaplik, Patti Wehr, Stacey Schuh, Tina Meyer, Phil Rink, Lisa Swanson and John Galbreath,” said the coaches.
