Ultralight down in mudflats, domestic violence
Island County Sheriff’s
deputies on Camano Island
responded to the following
recently:
• On March 6, Camano Island Fire and Rescue responded to reports of an ultralight aircraft down on the mudflats near English Boom. The pilot experienced engine failure but had safely landed his plane. The pilot was free of injuries and the plane sustained light damage.
• A 60-year-old man was arrested and booked into Island County Jail in connection with domestic violence assault after deputies determined he was the primary aggressor in an altercation with his 52-year-old wife. The dispute took place on March 2, on Timothy Way.
• Deputies, responding to a 911 hang-up on March 2, learned of an alleged domestic violence issue on Glen Acre Lane. Deputies arrived at the residence and witnessed part of the altercation, intervening when the 38-year-old man pushed the 33-year-old woman to the floor. The man was booked into Island County Jail in connection with domestic violence assault.
• A 15-year-old boy was arrested and booked into Island County Juvenile Corrections on March 6, in connection with two counts of domestic violence assault after getting into an argument with his 42-yearold mother and 18-year-old sister. The argument, which took place on Crestview Drive, allegedly began when both women declined to give the boy a ride to the store and refused to give him the keys to a car.
• On March 7, deputies made contact with and arrested a 24-year-old woman near Terry’s Corner, in connection with an outstanding warrant for driving with license suspended or revoked. She was transported to Snohomish County Jail for processing.
• Deputies responded to a non-injury motor vehicle accident near the intersection of E. Cross Island Road and N. East Camano Drive on March 6. A 54-year-old woman driving a silver 2003 BMW 325 made a left-hand turn from a stop sign and struck a green 1996 Dodge Ram pickup driven by a 34-year-old man with a 67-year-old passenger. The woman was cited for failure to yield right of way.
• A 47-year-old man living on Fisher King Way reported on March 5 that he had witnessed his 21-yearold son in possession of methamphetamines. The son alleged that he had received the drug from a friend, but hadn’t used it. The case was forwarded to Island County prosecutors.
• On March 5, deputies responded to a non-injury accident between a 16-yearold male driver of a gray 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe and a 47-year-old driver of a silver 2007 Nissan Frontier. The accident took place near the intersection of E. Camano Hill Road and N. East Camano Drive, when the driver of the Tahoe crossed the centerline and swiped the Nissan’s mirror. The driver of the Tahoe was issued a citation in connection with failure to keep right of center, with collision.
• A 53-year-old man living on Gladstone Drive contacted deputies on March 2 to report that he had been the victim of debit fraud. The man said someone had been withdrawing $203 from his account each day. The withdrawals were being made from an ATM in Burbank, California, and totaled $3,763.42.
• An 85-year-old woman passed away in her Sundown Lane home on March 7. Her body was discovered by a 56-year-old man who went to check on her when she didn’t appear at her usual family Sunday breakfast.
• On March 3, deputies stopped the 25-year-old male driver of a white 1985 Porsche 944 near the intersection of W. Cross Island Road and N. West Camano Drive after noticing the car’s loud, custom exhaust and pacing the vehicle at 70 mph in a 50 mph zone. Over the course of the traffic stop, deputies found a glass smoking pipe; metal filters; a gallon-size zip-lock bag of marijuana; two boxes of sandwich-size zip-lock bags; a red measuring cup with residue on it; a measuring scale with residue on it; and $380 cash. The man was provided a written statement acknowledging possession of the listed items and admitting to selling. He was cited in connection with speeding and possession of marijuana greater than 40 grams.
