In response to readers’
requests, the
NEWS will run weekly updates on
the General Mark Clark
Bridge project on Camano
Island and the SR532 corridor
project in Stanwood.
Washington State Department of Transportation crews are continuing work on the new bridge. They have shifted 270th Avenue NW to make room for the new approach road from Stanwood, stabilized the ground and are now laying down metal baskets filled with rock, which will become part of the approach wall.
Up top, crews have used rebar and set up concrete forms to tie all the girders together in preparation for pouring the bridge deck.
On Camano Island, at the intersection of Hanstad Road and SR 532, crews will be working during the days this week to install curbing and a raised island to replace the orange barrels currently in place at the intersection. This work doesn’t require lane closures.
At the intersection of SR 532 and 72nd Avenue NW, near the high school, work requires nighttime lane closures, and involves widening the intersection to accommodate dedicated left-turn lanes in the north-south direction, as well as combined rightturn/ through lanes. These improvements are in addition to the exiting lanes. Crews have also prepared to install new streetlights and traffic signals, and are building a berm to insulate area businesses from road noise.
