Camano Island artist Jeannie Yovetich Burham has been selected by Everett’s Cultural Arts Commission to be featured on the promotional poster for Sorticulture 2010.

Selected from among 30 artists, Burham’s painting “Hippy Dippy Eco Peace Garden” explodes with lively colors and playful flowers that call out to the whimsy and fun of Sorticulture, according to the arts commission.

“I am thrilled and very proud to be chosen as Sorticulture’s artist, because it is such a happy, outdoorsy event where gardening and art really come together,” Burham said.

Burham sold her first painting at age 13 and hasn’t stopped painting since. She has been active in the Camano Arts Association and Stanwood Camano Arts Guild in addition to showing her work in numerous galleries around the Puget Sound region.

In her art she takes a “more is more” approach. She works to entice all the senses by combining unexpected colors, flattening space, and using interesting patterns and textures.

All these techniques came together in the painting chosen to represent Sorticulture this year.

Now in its 13th year, Sorticulture is a celebration of creative outdoor living, featuring hand-crafted art for the garden, rare plants from specialty nurseries, display gardens and fun projects for kids, all in the beautiful arboretum setting of Legion Park in north Everett.

Ciscoe Morris and other gardening experts join an array of art and greenery. Along with plants and garden art, there is also a wine garden with live acoustic music.

The show runs 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. June 11, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 12 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 13, at Legion Memorial Park, 145 Alverson Blvd. off W. Marine View Drive in Everett.
