The team that raised the most money in last year’s Relay for Life, the Stanwood/Camano Wellness Center, has announced their annual silent auction for this year’s relay, which is a benefit for the American Cancer Society. The wellness center’s silent auction is 5-8:30 p.m. Saturday, April 17, at the Sons of Norway Hall, at 9910 270th St. in Stanwood. Donations for the auction are welcome. Reps. Norma Smith and Barbara Bailey invite residents of the 10th District to participate in their post-legislative session teletown hall meeting Thurs, March 18. George Spirk, 97 of Stanwood, and daughter Cookie of Camano Island will be performing Wed, March 17, 2 p.m. at Gerry Andal’s, 27021 102nd Ave NW, in Stanwood. The duo will be singing Irish and other well-known songs. Gerry Andal will be performing a solo act directly after their performance. There is no cover charge. The regular matinee show is offered every Wednesday by Gerry Andal. For more information or reservations call 629-6569. Baby Storytime for ages 3 through 18 months meets Thursdays, March 25 – May 20 at 9:30 a.m. Babies and their favorite adults learn to love reading together with stories, songs, finger plays and rhymes. Family Storytime meets Thursdays, March 25 – May 20, 10:30 a.m. Join children’s librarian, Joy Feldman, for stories, rhymes and music about the season, birds, houses, gardens, pizza, etc. The Teen Advisory Board meets Thurs, March 25, 3 p.m. Teens are invited to share their ideas for library programs, purchases and improvements and earn community service credit. Wellness Series for adults regarding healing through self acupressure, Mon, March 22, 5:30-6:30 p.m. Learn tools to reduce appetite pangs, headaches and shoulder pain using the science of simple acupressure. Presented by Susanna “Z” Mantis, local business owner, certified aromatherapist and reflexologist. Funded by the Stanwood/Camano Friends of the Library.

Prime rib dinner open to public

A fund-raising prime rib dinner will be held Fri, March 19, 4:30 p.m. at the American Legion Post, “and goes until we run out of food,” said a spokesperson. This is the main fund raiser to support all projects for veterans, and to fund scholarships. Dinner includes “a generous cut” of prime rib, baked potato with all the trimmings, salad bar, veggies and dessert.

Stanwood Hotel hosts live music

The Mark Dufresne Band will appear at the Stanwood Hotel and Saloon Sat, March 20, 9 p.m., no cover. DuFresne is one of the most sought after blues talents in the Northwest. The Washington Blues Society has awarded him for best vocalist, songwriter and harmonica more than any other artist.

Davis Place teen center needs volunteers

Seeking fun, energetic adults who enjoy working with teens to volunteer at Davis Place, which is an after school destination for middle and high school age youth. It offers drop-in activities on Monday and Wednesday afternoons, 2 - 5:30 p.m. and scheduled classes Tuesdays and Thursdays. Youth arts festival poster contest

The deadline to submit an entry for the 12th annual Youth Arts Festival poster contest is April 8. The winning entry will be used to advertise the festival throughout the Stanwood Camano area. Entries must flat 11 X 17 inches with 3 ½ inches of blank space at the bottom for lettering. Entrance forms can be picked up at the Community Resource Center. For infomation, call 629-5257.

Appreciation to community for help

High school play continues this week

Stanwood High School continues performances of its rock musical, “The Wedding Singer,” March 18-20, 7 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center. Due to some mature humor, parental guidance is suggested.

LaVerne to perform Irish melodies

Camano Island musician and vocalist Larry LaVern will be performing Celtic folk songs and sea shanties at Josephine in Stanwood, and Warm Beach Senior Community Wed., March 17, St. Patrick’s Day.

Garden Faire site changed to Stanwood

Garden Faire has been moved to Stanwood Middle School for the Sat, April 3 event. Signs will direct the public to the new site, and it will remain a free family event. Garden Faire is the longest running garden-art festival in Snohomish County, begun by the now retired Silvana Farmers Market. All wares are from the Pacific Northwest, where specialty nurseries bring in the newest plants. Skilled artisans with unique originals are interspersed with gourmet treats and eats. Free transport for veterans announced

Catholic Community Services at the Everett Family Center will provide transportation services to disabled veterans who live in rural and outlying areas. This service is free of charge and a service connected disability is not required. Volunteer drivers will pick up veterans at a place convenient to the veteran and transport them to the VA Hospital in Seattle, the VA Clinics in Lake City and Mount Vernon, local vet centers, grocery store, commissary, haircuts and other essential personal hygiene appointments.
