Preschool

Summit Academy for child and parent

Dear Editor:

Reading about our school system being defined by the current budget crunch made me very thankful for the other choices that we have here now in the Stanwood- Camano area.

For the last year I have been sending my children to Summit Academy, a new independent school that is located at the Stanwood Senior Center. Not only did I have an opportunity to be part of a small school, teacher to child ratio 1-12, but we also became part of a very active and engaging community. I got to know and work with all the parents and their children while helping the school establish a firm foundation for growth. We got to see our children engage with their local community while working with the seniors.

It has been a rewarding first year at the school, watching the principles of experiential education work.

One simple thing that drew me to the school is that the children often do one or two rough drafts before producing finished work, something that I do on a daily basis.

Being able to support this kind of hands-on education in our community feels great. If you want to find out more about the school, visit www.summit-ed.org or call 360-202-5710.
