Verdict still out on Jones versus Badley

Any outcome in the civil lawsuit between Courtney Jones and Basil Badley, the husband of Senator Mary Margaret Haugen (D-Camano) remains to be determined.
A spokesperson for Jones’ attorney, Rebecca J. Roe of the Seattle firm Schroeter, Goldmark and Bender, said a summons was filed on Nov. 20 of last year with Island County Superior Court on Jones’ behalf.
An Island County court clerk reported the investigation is open in the civil case and noted that summons and a complaint had been served.
The docket number provided by Jones’ attorney is for a civil suit, not a criminal suit.
Island County Detective Jay Wallace confirmed Jones has not pressed criminal charges against Badley.
The incidents under investigation dates back to November 2008, when Badley allegedly attempted to kiss Jones on the lips during a campaign appreciation dinner. Jones turned away, and the kiss landed on her cheek.
Then, in December 2008, Badley allegedly invited Jones over to gather campaign materials while Haugen was in Olympia, and, after several drinks, tried again to kiss her and “put his hand down her shirt and between her legs.”
Jones also alleged that Badley made comments about helping her further her political career.
Jones claimed to have forgiven Badley after he sent an apologetic e-mail, but nonetheless grew upset as time wore on. According to the lawsuit, she also worried about her career if Haugen found out.
