Sheriff announces bid for re-election

Sheriff Mark Brown Sheriff Mark Brown Speaking to a crowd of supporters late last month, Island County Sheriff Mark Brown announced he would seek re-election for a second term.

Addressing the current budget cuts in Island County and to the need to provide an overall sense of security in what he described as “uncertain” times, Brown spoke clearly about the future of Island County law enforcement.

“I look ahead to the next four years with optimism and leadership,” Brown said. “Today’s challenges were not unanticipated and I have the plans, knowhow, and commitment to lead us through these trying times.”

Brown has received the endorsement of Washington State Attorney General Rob McKenna.

First elected in 2007, Brown established a countywide “E-Lert” program to share public safety information quickly, is chairman of the state’s Sex Offender Notification and Registration Committee, as well as the co-chair of the Washington State Traffic Safety Committee.
