Mattens to present talk on tax system
Island County assessor Dave Mattens will give a presentation about the workings of the county’s property assessment and tax system, Wed., March 10, 7 p.m., at the Camano Multipurpose Building, 141 East Camano Drive. He will have handouts available with all the necessary reference information. There will be time for questions. Sponsored by the Camano Island Democrats; all are welcome.
Guided walk at Camano forest preserve
Join Friends of Camano Island Parks members on a guided community walk at Camano Ridge Forest Preserve Sat, March 6. Meet at the Camano Center (blue building), 141 East Camano Drive, where the walk starts at 9:50 a.m. and climbs the hill to the trailhead with a brief stop at the Kristoferson Beaver Marsh. The first one-half mile of trail has a 200-foot elevation gain. Trails on top are level, a three-plus miles round trip. The approximately two-hour hike takes place rain or shine; wear appropriate clothes and sturdy shoes or boots. Camano Chapel youth sportplex outing
Fri, March 19, there will be an outing to the Bellingham Sportplex. Tuesdays, EYP, 6-7:30 p.m. Free van shuttle from Dollar Store leaves at 5:40 p.m. and returns 8 p.m. More information online at www.eyp7.org.
Fire Jets to get defibrillator training

Preschool and kindergarten registration
Camano Chapel preschool and kindergarten is now accepting registration for the 2010-2011 school year. Preschool classes will meet Mon, Wed and Thurs, 9 – 11:15 a.m. or 12:15 – 2:30 p.m. Kindergarten classes will meet Mon, Thurs, every other Wed, with a morning session 9 a.m. – 12, focusing on reading and language arts. An afternoon session is 12:15 – 3:15 p.m., focusing on math and science. Same schedule Tues, Fri, every other Wed. There is a tuition and registration fee for all classes. Friends of Camano Island Parks volunteers will be hosting a work party at Camano Island state parks next week. Meet Tues., March 9, 9:30 a.m., at Camano Island State Park ranger station. Mabana Flames host guest speaker
Doris Platt of Sea Grass Gallery will speak at the Thurs. March 4 meeting of the Mabana Flames at the Mabana Fire station, 10 a.m. A luncheon, hosted by Flames’ members, will follow her presentation. For newcomers to Camano Island, the Mabana Flames is the auxiliary that supports volunteer firefighters, and helps provide aid in the event of a disaster. Jeannie Ovenell will be talking about the Stanwood-Camano Food Bank to the Camano Country Club’s Women’s Club Tues, March 8, 10 a.m. The program will be followed by luncheon.
