RICHARD “DICK” STURZA
FEB. 21, 1949 – FEB. 24, 2010
Camano Island resident Richard “Dick” Sturza, 61, died February 24, 2010, at Glenden Beach, Ore., from a massive coronary event.
Dick was born February 21, 1949, in Chehalis to Gus and Opal Sturza and spent his early years in Winlock. He graduated from Washington State University in 1971 and always enjoyed returning to WSU for football games.
Dick retired from the Bellevue Police Department as a police captain after 23 years of service. For the past 15 years he worked for Snohomish County, initially in code enforcement and then as deputy fire marshal.
He enjoyed restoring classic cars, cooking, gardening, crosswords and travel.
Above all, he loved his family, being a husband, father and “Papa” made him happy and proud. He will be greatly missed by his family.
His parents and sister Jo Anne Sturza Hansen preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife Linda, daughter Kelly Pickard, stepchildren Amanda McDaniel and Christopher Smith, six grandchildren, sisters Jeanette Kajia and Irene Barry, brother Tom Sturza and numerous nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are made under the direction of the Catermole Funeral Home in Winlock where a viewing will take place Thursday, March 4 from 5-7 p.m.
A service will begin at 1 p.m. Friday, March 5, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Winlock, with burial at St. Urban Catholic Church in Winlock, followed with a wake at the St. Urban Grange Hall. A second wake on Sunday, March 7 begins 2 p.m. at the Sturza home. In lieu of flowers Dick would have loved donations to be sent to the Everett Gospel Mission.
