Spartan hoopsters bound for state
With an overflow crowd exhorting them on, the Stanwood Spartans (16-6) took it to the Arlington Eagles last Wednesday evening and then, three nights later, they overcame an early-on hesitancy to beat Cascade and qualify for the state tournament for the first time since the 2001- 2002 campaign. Records set during ‘Great State’ swim meet
Performing at a level unprecedented in Stanwood High School history, the boys’ nine-man swim team had four individual swimmers and two relay squads advance to the finals to finish 15th out of 52 4A schools in the state of Washington last weekend. Full Story
Charboneau, Mather become first-ever SHS placers at Mat Classic
Laura Charboneau and Casey Mather became the first Spartan girl wrestlers in the history of Stanwood High School to place at the Mat Classic.

Gee moves on to state with regional third place
Out of a four-man Stanwood High contingent, only 189-pounder Brad Gee emerged from the Region I 4A Wrestling Tournament to represent the Spartans at Mat Classic XXII in Tacoma last week. (See related story above.)

Six swimmers move on to state after WesCo
The Stanwood High boys’ swim team qualified 10 swimmers and two alternates for the finals in the WesCo District Swim Championships and eventually took sixth place in the 14-team meet.
