New study ranks every county in all 50 states
Snohomish County is the 10th healthiest place to live in the state, while Island County ranks fifth.
A set of reports to rank the overall health of every county in all 50 states was released last week by the University of Wisconsin’s Population Health Institute and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Full Story

Birders flocked to Stanwood and Camano Island during epic weather conditions on Saturday for the fifth annual Port Susan Snow Goose and Birding Festival.

SnoCo looks for new director
The Snohomish County Council thawed a corner of the countywide hiring freeze to fill the planning department director position.
Council granted an initial exemption for the position last year. The 2010 budget readopted a hiring freeze, requiring the current release. Full Story

I know we’ve reported on it, the number of businesses closing, moving or cutting back in Stanwood. We’ve covered stories about the struggling economy and unemployment rate in both Snohomish and Island counties. Still, empty commercial spaces scattered around the city have caught my attention lately. There are a lot of them, both in uptown and downtown Stanwood. Full Story

ROBERT LEANDER DAVIS
OCT. 5, 1938 - FEB. 13, 2010
Robert Leander Davis was born Oct. 5, 1938 and passed away peacefully at his home on Camano Island Feb. 13, 2010.
Bob was a 20-year survivor of malignant melanoma.
He was raised in Woodinville and graduated from Bothell High School in 1957. Full Story
KENNETH “KEN” ARTHUR
AUGUST 30, 1921 — FEBRUARY 13, 2010
Kenneth “Ken” Arthur broke from the bondage of the pain of Alzheimer’s disease for the arms of our Heavenly Father February 13, 2010.
He was born August 30, 1921 in Deer Lodge, Montana, to Bill and Marie Arthur.
He enjoyed golf, basketball, football and boxing, participating in all of them. Full Story
THOMAS JOHN RODIN
DEC. 25, 1929 — FEB. 12, 2010
Thomas John Rodin passed away 9 p.m. Friday, February 12, 2010, surrounded by his family.
Tom was born to Axel Wilhelm Rodin and Carol Alice Casey Rodin on Christmas day, December 25, 1929 in Barnes County, North Dakota.
Tom was a volunteer firefighter for over 30 years, while living in Woodinville. He held the position of assistant chief for District 36 in King County. Full Story
