Western Conference athletic directors are in the process of shuffling league alignments in order to accommodate a series of population changes within local high schools. The AD’s have placed the conference’s 19 high schools into three different divisions.
Stanwood High (1424 students in top three grades) will remain a member of the WesCo 4A North along with longtime members Arlington (1377), Lake Stevens (1692), Marysville-Pilchuck (2560), Monroe (1621) and Snohomish (1424).
The WesCo 4A South Division will consist of Cascade (1403), Edmonds- Woodway (1465), Jackson (1535), Kamiak (1730) and Mariner (1571).
Members of a revamped WesCo 3A Conference will be joined by Oak Harbor (1237), Mountlake Terrace (1260) and Shorewood (1285) – schools formerly with populations that qualified them as 4A (1304+ students) – the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association’s classification for the state’s most populous schools. Continuing members of the 3A league include Everett (1224), Glacier Peak (1057), Lynnwood (1232), Meadowdale (1163) and Shorecrest (1167).
The new leagues will cover girls’ and boys’ basketball, boys’ and girls’ tennis, wrestling, baseball, softball, football, volleyball, girls’ and boys’ soccer. Cross country, swimming, golf and track will likely continue to be within a mixed 3A/4A league.
