Learn how to entice butterflies and hummingbirds into your garden Wed., Feb. 17, 7 p.m. at the Camano Multipurpose Center, 141 East Camano Drive. Bob Barca, Master Gardener and owner of Hummingbird Hill, will identify their basic requirements for life and provide tips for appropriate plants, plus steps needed to create a special garden for these visitors. This presentation is part of a public education series hosted the third Wednesday of the month by the Camano Wildlife Habitat Project, sponsored by Friends of Camano Island Parks as part of the Island County watershed project. The Island County Board of Commissioners is seeking applicants to fill two vacancies on the Conservation Futures Technical Advisory Group (TAG). The TAG consists of nine members representing various entities and members are appointed by the Island County Commissioners. The current vacancies are for an at-large agriculture/forestry representative and a representative from the unincorporated areas of Island County. U. S. Constitution basics in lecture

Learn more about the Bill of Rights Tues, Feb. 23, 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Lost Lake Clubhouse, sponsored by Republican Women of Camano Island. The free event will include a lecture on the U.S. Constitution basics, followed by an ice cream social. For more information, call 387-3964.

Third Friday of the month Grange dance

Fri., Feb. 19 is the South Camano Grange third Friday of the month dance. Mix of swing, ballroom, Latin and country, including East Coast swing, West Coast swing, waltz, foxtrot, nightclub 2-step, rumba, cha cha, country 2-step, cowboy cha cha and the electric slide. Beginning nightclub 2-step lesson starts at 7:30 p.m. (free with paid admission to the dance); followed by general dancing 8:15 to 10:30 p.m. Address is 2227 S. Sock Hop music on old jukebox

The Sock Hop at the Camano Senior and Community Center Sat, March 6, will be swinging with tunes from a vintage jukebox, 7-10:30 p.m. There is an admission for both members and nonmembers. No-host bar will serve root beer floats in addition to the usual beer and wine fare. For eats, hotdogs and chips. “Break out your saddle shoes and poodle skirts and come on down to rock and roll,” invite organizers.

‘Painting with pastel’ workshop

A painting workshop for artists who would like to explore the palette, texture and richness of soft pastel, is Wednesdays (four weeks), 1 to 3:30 p.m. starting March 10 - 25. There is a cost. Class size is six to eight artists, instructed by Karla Matzke. Call 387-2759, to get information for supplies and cost.

Coming April 24, the second annual women’s expo will be held on Camano Island. Features local business owned or operated by women that serve the needs of women.
