Driver falls asleep at wheel
Island County Sheriff’s
deputies on Camano Island
responded to the following
recently:
• A 36-year-old woman fell asleep at the wheel on Feb. 5. Her 1990 Acura Integra drifted off the shoulder, struck a tree and came to a stop near the intersection of South Camano Drive and Sunnyshore Road. The accident report indicated no injuries.
• On Feb. 2, deputies clocked a blue 2000 Dodge Dakota traveling at 58 mph in a 45 mph zone. Deputies stopped the man at the intersection of SR 532 and Good Road. A check of his driver’s license revealed that he was supposed to have an ignition interlock device installed in his vehicle. He did not. Deputies issued a criminal citation in connection with operating without an ignition interlock device, with a mandatory court appearance.
• A 54-year-old woman called deputies on Feb. 5 to report a burglary in progress at her home in the 1300 block of Lakewood Drive. The suspect was allegedly known to the woman and had previously been her roommate. The man was gone when deputies arrived. They cleared the area, and the woman reported nothing of value missing.
