Warm thanks
Thanks for the afternoon of art
Dear Editor:
Utsalady Elementary School had their annual Afternoon of Art Friday, February 5, when the students were paired with local volunteer artists and they received a lesson. Then they
were able to try “first hand” their newly learned skill.
It was an incredible afternoon of laughter, smiles and learning that could have never been accomplished without the following artist volunteers:
Indy Behrendt — photography; John and Jenna Delzell — puzzling mural; Mark Eikland & Peggy Swendsen — pottery; Karen Furney — tile; Ramona Grotte — hacky sacks; Jack Gunter — magnet art, using paint donated by Stanwood Hardware; Armin Klatt — drawing with perspective; Tina Meyer — cake decorating; Amy Mueller — fish; Shannon Mulhall — Mardi Gras masks; Bev and Bill Paulsen — crows; Melanie Serroels — drawing and watercolor; Julie Wheeler and Sonia Kline — stamping; Mikky Barnett — Native American art; Sharon Dodge — collage; Kristin Jensen — conies; Jamie Johnson —Fimo beads; Genet and John McHugh — shrinky dinks; Terah Patridge —dance; Bobbie Samples — drawing; Kathy Skeels and Heather Malone — slime; Andrew Washburn and Matt Nesheim — boats from the Center of Wooden Boats, and Kristi Willard — quilts from the Camano Island Quilt Guild.
In addition, thank you to the Ustalady Booster Club for providing the funds for all the materials, to the many parent and student volunteers who helped in the classes and to the Utsalady staff who helped to enter data, make nametags, park cars and help kids get signed up and find their classes.
Lastly, I want to give huge kudos to Katie Farrey, Utsalady’s own teacher who volunteers hours of her own time and energy to organize this event year after year.
Thanks, Katie! Your dedication makes a huge difference in the lives of many students, staff and community members.
Thank you to everyone who helped make our Afternoon of Art a great success.
