Winter blossoms

Signs of spring are sprouting during winter in Stanwood. Following the warmest January on record, February temperatures are keeping the mercury above normal, encouraging this cherry blossom behind Heritage Park to bloom early. Data from Weather Underground shows an average temperature of 47.5 degrees so far this month, with a high of 59.9 degrees and low of 38.3 degrees, well above the danger zone for budding plants. Forecasts call for similar warm trends to continue. PHOTO BY BETH HARRISON | STANWOOD/CAMANO NEWS Signs of spring are sprouting during winter in Stanwood.
